Lebanon attractions – Anjar from the past attract many tourists in Anjar every year. The archeological experience in Anjar is completely different from other places in Lebanon. Anjar is a town which is 58 kilometers away from Beirut. It derived its name from the term “Ayn Al-Jaar” which is an Arabic term. It means “water from the rock”. For tourists, Anjar is something similar in appearance also. The beautiful and the panoramic view of streams flowing from the mountain make it an apt place for you to visit at least once.


Anjar is the only place in Lebanon which carries Omayyad ruins from the past. It was built as a trading city by caliph Malik. Also, it is the only city which is non-coastal as well as a trading city. The Anjar markets are god places to shop for cheap things which you can keep as reminisces from the past. Anjar is diverse in religion and attracts tourists who come to Lebanon.


The Great palace: The Great palace is the most significant historic site in Anjar. It is one of the major Lebanon attractions – Anjar. It projects beautiful byzantine style with a shade of roman tradition. Roman ruins are said to be equally found from here. What is more fascinating is the culmination and depiction of three cultures in one place. Those three cultures are roman, byzantine and Omayyad. It is one place to visit with adventure and excitement.


Tetrapylon: The center of Anjar has the four famous Corinthian columns of Tetrapylon. They mark the intersection point of Cardo maximums and Decumanus maximus. Cardo maximums and Decumanus maximus are the two avenues that divide the city into four quarters.


Hammams: Hammams in Anjar are located to the east of Cardo Maximus. Hammams are basically the remains and ruins of baths from the past. There are the images in the form of engravings from the past.


Decumanus Maximus: Decumanus Maximus is the smallest avenue and runs all through the city in the east-west direction. It crosses the Cardo maximum exactly at the point of the famous Tetrapylon. Along this avenue mosque and the small palace is located too. Cardo Maximus:
The Cardo Maximus intersects the Decamanus Maximus in almost the middle. This is exactly where the Tetrapolyton is currently situated. In history, the arched porticos bordered this avenue. On both sides, there were around 600 shops. But from the past, not all the sections of colonnades could survive to expect a few. Those remains are still located there.


Mount St. Elias’ mosque: The mosque is built on the Mount Saint Elias hill. It is clearly visible from the surrounding of Anjar. There are snow covered mountains around which increase its picturesque value. It is rarely seen anywhere else in the entire world that a mosque like this is built on a hill which was named after a saint who was Christian. This is a religious diversity that a place like Anjar has to offer. Mount St. Elias’ mosque is the only mosque of this kind in the entire Middle East.

How to reach Anjar:

If you are planning to go to Anjar then going from Beirut is always preferable than follow any other route. There are service taxis and mini buses available. Even private cars can be given a thought of if you wish to make your journey luxurious and more comfortable seeing the surrounding view all throughout the journey.


You will have to go to Anjar from Beirut and then back to Beirut from Anjar if you are coming to visit Anjar from far off places. The enchanting Lebanon attractions – Anjar make it perfect destination for famished people who want to explore the unexplored tradition from the past.
