Singapore Botanic Garden

The Singapore Botanic Garden is one of the most famous attractions of Singapore. The Botanic Garden was founded in 1859 by an Agri-Horticultural Society. Designed as an ornamental park, this leisure garden holds maximum appeal for all the nature lovers and gardening enthusiasts. The major tourist attraction in the garden, the 3-hectares National Orchid Garden was founded under the administration of Dr Tan. The Botanic Garden presently is famous as an internationally renowned tropical botanical institution, a flagship park, and a major tourist destination. The garden from 1960s started playing a major role in the greening of Singapore. 

The Jacob Ballas Children's Garden located at the Bukit Timah Core in the Singapore Botanic Garden is a garden dedicated to the children. Here, children will get to know and learn more about plant importance and conservation. The garden is famous for organizing a range of educational workshops and tours for the young visitors to the garden. This garden boasts of being the first one of a kind garden in Asia.


Singapore Botanic Garden and its Operation

The Botanic Garden in Singapore is mainly famous for its role of connecting people to the plant life. The garden organizes various horticultural and botanical shows to educate people more about the plant life. It also organizes for a varied range of events throughout the year that helps in knowing plant life better. This garden is popular throughout the world for being a leading regional centre for horticultural and botanical research and training. The main attraction of the garden also lies in its various educational tours and opportunities. 


Getting to the Botanic Garden

You can easily reach the garden through various means of transportation. The garden can easily be reached by foot through its various entrances like, Burkill Gate, Cluny Park Gate, Tanglin Gate, Bukit Timah Entrance, and the Nassim Gate. If you wish to take a taxi to the garden, there is a Taxi Drop-Off and Pick-Up point at the Visitor Centre along Cluny Road. 

You can also reach the garden by public bus running through Bukit Timah Road or Holland Road. To reach the garden through Holland Road, you can opt for SBS Transit 7, 105, 123, 174 and SMRT 75, 77, 106. SBS Transit 48, 66, 151, 153, 154, 156, 170 and SMRT 67, 171 will take you the Singapore Botanic Garden through Bukit Timah Road 

The garden is also accessible through coach transportation. The drop-off point of coach transportation is situated at the Visitor Centre of the Botanic Gardens', Jacob Ballas Children's Garden, and the Ginger Garden Coach Drop-off Point. Parking of the coaches is available at the Visitor Centre, Jacob Ballas Children's Garden, and Tyersall Avenue Public Coach Park. 

You can also reach the garden by car. Facilities of car parking are available at Singapore Botanic Gardens' Visitor Centre, Public Parking along Tyersall Avenue, Botany Centre, Bukit Timah Car Park at Bukit Timah Core, and Jacob Ballas Children's Garden.


Tours of Singapore Botanic Garden

The Garden organizes various tours and exhibits throughout the year promoting gardening among the tourists. The education department of the botanic garden organizes for such tours and workshops. These tours are planned to promote the ‘Go Green’ mantra and nature awareness among people. The tours also seek to inspire the non-botanically inclined tourists to horticulture. There are various educational tours organized in the botanic garden for schools and organized groups of kids. These educational tours are largely organized in the different attractions located in the garden. Registration and payment details of the tour vary in accordance of each wprkshop and tours. Opening Hours of the Garden and its Attractions

The Singapore Botanic Garden and its various in-house attractions remain open for the visitors almost throughout the3 year with little variance in their timings. Here is the list of the opening hours of the garden and its attractions – 


Singapore Botanic Gardens
Opening hours: 5 am to 12 midnight daily
Admission Rates: Free


National Orchid Garden
Opening hours: 8.30 am to 7 pm daily (last ticket sale at 6pm)
Admission Rates: Adults: $5.00
Students: $1.00
Senior Citizens: $1.00
Children (below 12 years): Free


Jacob Ballas Children's Garden
Opening hours: 8.00am - 7.00pm (last admission at 6.30pm)
The Children's Garden remains closed on Mondays (excepting selected public holiday)
Admission Rates: Free
Children up to 12 years old can enjoy the facility of the Children's Garden. All children must be accompanied by an adult. 


Library of Botany and Horticulture
Opening hours: Mondays to Fridays - 9.00am - 5.00pm
Saturdays & Sundays - 9.00am - 1.00pm
Public Holidays - Closed
